The BAFTAS, short for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, took place on Sunday 12th May at the Royal Festival Hall venue, on London’s South Bank. The BAFTA is an individual charity that aims to supports and develop the art form of the moving image; Film, Television and Game within the United Kingdom. The 2019 BAFTA Awards was hosted by Graham Norton and was an excellent night to celebrate the well deserving, talented individuals.
Comedian Daisy May Cooper confidently walked the red carpet, but not in a high-end designer gown and luxury accessories that you would expect. Her look consisted of a bin bag dress, with a rubbish cluttered cape, a pigeon hat and dustbin bag. Instead of caring about her image, this selfless star donated the money she would have spent on her dress, to her local foodbank. Daisy admits, her Mum and her friends designed the dress and that she would rather her money was donated to a worthwhile cause. This art project must receive its due, as they did not hold back with the detail. The main body was constructed by ruching and layering of the A line mass of black bin bags. The unmissable train, strategically covered in hundreds of empty wrappers. Finally topped off with a dustbin lid fascinator, with a pigeon perched on top and a small dustbin handbag attached on a small chain. This was undeniably the most jaw dropping fashion statement of the BAFTAs 2019.
Circulating the media right now, is the lovely Jodie Comer for her emotional acceptance speech on her BAFTA for Leading Actress as cunning Russian assassin, Villanelle in the hit drama ‘Killing Eve’. The hit show also received an impressive 14 nominations. The actress was up against her co star Sandra Oh, in the same category and managed to come out on top, honoured of her latest achievement. The emotional star dedicated her award to her late Nana Francis, who always believed in her and jokingly took credit for Jodie’s talent. Comer opted for a magenta one shoulder dress by Stella McCartney. A simple yet breathtaking look, for such a humble actress. Finally recognised for her phenomenal work.
Here is the moment Jodie Comer accepted her well deserved award.
